Client Story: Karen Judd Realtor
KarenJudd.ca: From a dated, marginally functional web site to a dynamic, modern site with a 100% custom design that is loaded with features, comes with great support (just in case Bad Dog Design is unavailable to assist) and is positioned to grow with her needs and to keep pace with the ever-changing landscape of Real Estate online.
Karen Judd came to Bad Dog Design as a referral. Karen is a Sunshine Coast Realtor with Prudential Sussex Realty. Her previous web site, pictured at the bottom of this post, was the default MLX Link site supplied through Prudential.
The site was functional, but dated looking and only utilizing the basic real estate listings presentation and a one page bio. With over 8 years of direct real estate experience and a history on the Sunshine Coast dating back to 1967, Karen clearly had a lot more to offer to clients than her current site showcased. In addition, it was difficult to manage and expanding it always seemed to fall to the bottom of the to-do list.
After talking with Karen, and determining that she has the can-do attitude, openness to changes in technology, and ability to generate new and interesting content on a regular basis, we decided that using a made-for-realtors system was preferable to re-inventing the wheel.
Rather than burdening Karen with an html web site that required the services of a web maintenance provider moving into the future, or using a well-designed realtor focused WordPress template that would ‘bolt on’ to her listings engine, we decided to go the route of a complete realtor marketing management system, with MyRealPage.com.
The benefits of using a pre-built system are:
- hundreds of thousands of dollars are invested into creating the software, but the cost to the individual realtor is very low – under $100/month including hosting.
- there are many free templates provided that are polished, present well, and are exclusively geared to realtors
- the system itself allows for use of a completely custom design, with ‘weblets’ enabling the various parts of the site
- anywhere a weblet is installed means ease of editing by the designer – or the end client, in this case, Karen
- it includes many typically standalone components, reducing redundancy, simplifying editing, and adding to SEO (search engine optimization) effectiveness
- the system innovates in sync with the Internet and all users of the system benefit early and equally. An example is the launch some months ago of a mobile add-on for iPhones and Android smartphones, or the integration with Microsoft Bing for ‘Bird’s Eye view’
- MLS listings are integrated into the platform and can be presented and searched in a variety of ways, including importing shared listings
- it takes advantage of social media
- visitors to Karen’s site can create their own accounts via login by Facebook, Google or Yahoo, creating a leads system
- it includes an entire suite of tools for realtors who want to control all of the factors of their online business – statistics, web site editing, email, virtual office, contact management, blogging platform, YouTube integration and more.

I've been designing web sites for primarily Sunshine Coast based businesses since 1997. My strengths are brainstorming, wordpress template implementation with customization that makes sense, and content generation. I am the President and founder of Bigpacific.com, the guide to everything Sunshine Coast for over 14 years.
I also volunteer my time in the community, especially in the area of economic development, high-tech, and community initiatives.
